On 3 and 4 November, Dr Jan Broulík organised a workshop on the application of competition law in European labour markets, an area of growing interest amid increased enforcement against employers. The two-day event brought together legal scholars, economists, enforcement officials, and labour representatives to discuss recent developments and explore future directions.

The opening session set the scene by exploring the empirics and economics of competition between employers. A panel discussion followed, featuring insights from competition authority officials and trade union representatives. In his keynote address – available as a video recording below – Professor Eric Posner (University of Chicago) delivered a compelling overview of the state of “labor antitrust” in the United States. A subsequent session examined how restrictions of competition between employers are and should be addressed under EU competition law. The workshop concluded with a session showcasing ongoing PhD research in this emerging field.
