Time

Synopsis

National competition authorities have increasingly taken action against employers under competition law, and the European Commission is now following suit. In June 2025, it imposed its first fine ever for an agreement between companies not to poach each other’s employees. The Commission is also seeking input on how to take worker impacts into account in merger assessments.

This workshop will explore the implications of this emerging “labour antitrust” agenda. It will feature:

  • A keynote lecture by Eric Posner (University of Chicago)
  • A panel discussion with officials from European competition authorities and trade unions
  • Presentations of current research on the intersection of competition (law) and labour markets
  • A workshop for PhD researchers

The workshop is co-organised by the Amsterdam Centre for European Law and Governance, the Amsterdam Centre for European Studies, and the Benelux chapter of the Academic Society for Competition Law.

Programme will be available from September 2025. The workshop will be an in-person event. We hope you can join us in Amsterdam.
