Inji's PhD Research

Her research examines whether prevailing understandings of statehood remain adequate in the context of climate change–induced deterritorialisation. In particular, she explores whether a state can continue to exist where its territory is entirely and permanently lost.

To address this question, she analyses each element of statehood individually to assess whether they can independently sustain statehood in such circumstances. Her work engages closely with, and builds upon, the positions articulated by the International Law Commission and the International Court of Justice, while offering a slightly divergent perspective on their conclusions.

Her doctoral research is conducted under the supervision of Professor Christiane Ahlborn and Professor Suryapratim Roy.
