Kati Cseres appointed Professor at the Amsterdam Law School

Kati Cseres has been appointed Professor of European Competition Law and Consumer Protection at the University of Amsterdam.
Professor Cseres’ research expertise lies in European competition law, consumer law and constitutional law. She examines competition law in its broader constitutional and political‑economic context, with particular attention to the role of consumers both as market participants and as citizens.
As a professor, she will focus on how European competition law not only safeguards well‑functioning markets, but also contributes to upholding the rule of law in economic relations, curbing concentrations of economic power and ensuring access to the EU Single Market. By placing the consumer as citizen at the center, she will analyse how consumers experience the social and political consequences of economic power.
This appointment is also the result of the encouragement, collaboration and generosity of many colleagues over the years. I owe particular thanks to the many women academics who supported, encouraged and inspired me at different stages of my career. I also look forward to continuing to work closely with civil society organisations, public institutions and fellow scholars. Some of the most meaningful research begins outside the university, in dialogue with those confronting legal and democratic challenges in practice. I hope this chair will help strengthen those conversations.Kati Cseres
