Since 1 March 2025, Dr Giacomo Tagiuri is the new Acting Director at the Amsterdam Centre for European Law & Governance (ACELG). Giacomo is an assistant professor of EU Law at the University of Amsterdam Law School and specializes in EU economic law, including internal market, competition and consumer law. Following postdoctoral fellowships at New York University, the European University Institute, and the Safra Center for Ethics at Tel Aviv University, he joined UvA and ACELG in 2021.

''I’m grateful and excited to take on the role of acting director at ACELG, building on the leadership of Maria Weimer in the past years and the work of many colleagues who have fostered a strong research community dedicated to shaping European Law scholarship.

ACELG is a thriving, diverse group of EU law scholars studying key societal issues from contextual and interdisciplinary perspectives - an invaluable resource in times of growing threats to democracy and the rule of law, when independent scholarship on the EU is more vital than ever. I will strive to foster collegiality and support both individual and collective projects to ensure the continued success and growth of our centre in advancing the study of the European Union.’’

Dr Maria Weimer held the position of acting director from September 2023 and Professor Christina Eckes would like to thank Maria for all her dedicated work and wishes her the best of luck at the department of European Studies.

Dr Weimer said, ‘’I have tremendously enjoyed my time at ACELG - my role as acting director has allowed me to deepen connections with and among our wonderful researchers and to help shape the Centre’s life in a positive way. As I transition to my new role as Chair in European Studies, I look forward to continuing to collaborate with ACELG in strengthening Amsterdam's academic community on European law. I wish Giacomo every success in his new role!’’
