Congratulations to Wiebe Hommes for his promotion to Assistant Professor of European Law and Legal History. Wiebe joined ACELG in 2017 as a PhD candidate working on a reception history of the European Convention on Human Rights in the context of the Netherlands. He will continue teaching EU law on Bachelor and Master level as well as Legal History and Human Rights.

Wiebe holds a Master's degree in EU Law (LLM) and in history (MA) from the University of Amsterdam. His research interests lie in combining the two disciplines, mostly when it comes to (the history of) human rights, European and international law. His current research examines the entanglements of (European) law and imperial history as negotiated through day-to day practices, which is connected to the RPA (research priority area) ‘decolonial futures’ currently in development.
