Christina Eckes Professor of European Law and Director of ACELG

The Amsterdam Centre for European Law and Governance is pleased to announce that Christina Eckes has been appointed Professor of European Law. She will also assume the position of the Director of ACELG.

Christina Eckes joined the University of Amsterdam in September 2008. Previously, she completed her PhD research at the Centre of European Law at King's College London (2008) and worked as a lecturer in EU law at the University of Surrey, UK (2007-2008).

Christina Eckes spent the academic year 2012/2013 as Emile Noël Fellow-in-residence at New York University. Since January 2014 she has been adjunct director of ACELG and one of the leaders of ACELG’s research programme ‘Compound Constitutions in Europe’.

Since 2011 Christina Eckes is conducting research into the internal constitutional consequences of the European Union's external actions, funded by a personal research grant of the Dutch Scientific Organization (NWO, 2011-2015). She is also the author of EU Counter-Terrorist Policies and Fundamental Rights - The Case of Individual Sanctions (Oxford University Press, 2009), the leading monograph on EU sanctions. 

Christina Eckes succeeds Deirdre Curtin, who founded ACELG in 2009 and is now Joint Chair of European Law and Politics at the European University Institute. Deirdre Curtin remains a member of ACELG and professor at the Faculty of Law and the University of Amsterdam.
